Dear Kenny

Ever the adventurer, Dick spent the fall of 1971 attending school in New York City with his Cousin Scott Dragoon. They apparently didn’t get along that well and Dick sounded a bit lonely. Lonely enough to write his brother!

Dear Mom

A letter to his mother during his 1971 school term in New York City. He learned to type at school that term. Here he writes home yearning for mom’s home cooking!

Letter to Cousins

Dick was ten or eleven when he wrote this letter to his cousins describing life on the McKay Ranch near Harper, Oregon where he and his brother Ken stayed for two weeks in the summers of 1969 and 1970. Here he recounts the family rodeo the McKay girls put on for the brothers. Dick’s horse George, blind in one eye, was the fastest on the ranch. The girls offered the boys to try riding a bucking calf (you put a strap around the animal’s flank to make them buck). Dick readily agreed and managed not
